English Language courses for University of Exeter (Cornwall)

The EAP Team (English for Academic Purposes) offer English language courses and tutorials for students and researchers of Exeter University for whom English is a second or other language. The courses are free and cover Academic English language skills required for assignments and course work (EAP) as well as General English for everyday interactions. The tutorials are an opportunity to receive language feedback on written work, presentations or any aspect of language development.

Academic English Courses Spring Term 2018-19

The exact content and schedule for the Academic English courses are negotiated and depend on who enrols and the modules they are taking. The classes offer a supportive environment to discuss language questions and the experience of studying and living in what might be an unfamiliar culture.

General English Courses

CV and Application Writing. Every Tuesday 13.00 - 14.30 Jan 29 - Feb 26. PL sem 8.

An opportunity to find out about effective language for CVs and supporting statements. The course will investigate how to use positive expressions and power words to highlight your skills and achievements, and provide feedback on your CV and draft personal statements.

Sounds of English Every Thursday 16.00 - 17.30pm. Feb 7 - Mar 14 DM sem K

This 5 week course focuses on the pronunciation and delivery of spoken English, and how to develop your speaking and listening skills. It looks at aspects of pronunciation and connected speech, and explores why native speakers can be difficult to understand. Part of the course will involve giving mini-presentations and receiving feedback on pronunciation and the effectiveness of communication. 

Social English and Language in Use Every Friday 15.30 - 17.00   Feb 8 - Mar 29 PL sem 7

This course aims to develop and explore more informal Social English and language for everyday situations. It provides an opportunity to ask questions about expressions and grammar and to discuss some interesting aspects of English language and UK culture. The exact content of the course is flexible and negotiated as a group.
